چکیده
background and aims. the mechanical properties of fiber-reinforced composite fixed partial dentures (fpds) are affected by fiber impregnation. the aim of this in vitro study was to compare the fracture resistance of composite fixed partial dentures reinforced with pre-impregnated and non-impregnated fibers. materials and methods. groups (n=5) of three-unit fiber-reinforced composite fpds (23 mm in length) from maxillary second premolar to maxillary second molar were fabricated on two abutments with pontic width of 12 mm. one group was fabricated as the control group with composite (gradia) and the other two groups were fabricated with composite (gradia) reinforced with pre-impregnated fiber (fibrex ribbon) and non-impregnated fiber (fiber braid), respectively. the specimens were stored in distilled water for one week at 37°c and then tested in a universal testing machine by means of a three-point bending test. statistical analysis consisted of one-way anova and a post hoc scheffé’s test for the test groups (α=0.05). results. fracture resistance (n) differed significantly between the control group and the other two groups (p<0.001), but there were no statistically significant differences between the pre-impregnated and non-impregnated groups (p=0.565). the degree of deflection measured (mm) did not differ significantly between the three groups (p=0.397), yet the mean deflection measured in pre-impregnated group was twice as that in the other two groups. conclusion. reinforcement of composite with fiber might considerably increase the fracture resistance of fpds; however, the type of the fiber used resulted in no significant difference in fracture resistance of fpd specimens.

متن کاملFiber-reinforced composites in fixed partial dentures
Fiber-reinforced composite resin (FRC) prostheses offer the advantages of good aesthetics, minimal invasive treatment, and an ability to bond to the abutment teeth, thereby compensating for less-than-optimal abutment tooth retention and resistance form. These prostheses are composed of two types of composite materials: fiber composites to build the framework and hybrid or microfill particulate ...
متن کاملApplication of a pre-impregnated fiber-reinforced composite in the fabrication of an indirect dowel-core.
The root canal space prepared for a foundation restoration is often elliptic or too large, and an unintentionally prepared undercut is sometimes detected. This article presents a dental laboratory technique to reconstruct an endodontically treated tooth using a pre-impregnated fiber-reinforced composite (FRC) system instead of a conventional fiber post. Particular attention was paid to increase...
متن کاملfracture strength and bending of fiber-reinforced composites and metal frameworks in fixed partial dentures
objective: this in vitro study evaluated the fracture strength and bending amount of twotypes of fiber reinforced composite (frc) and cast metal frameworks used for fabrication of inlay fixed partial dentures (ifpds). materials and methods: seventy-two extracted first maxillary premolars and molars (36 each) were embedded in acrylic resin to represent a missing of second maxillary premolar. frc...
متن کاملLoad-bearing capacity of indirect inlay-retained fixed dental prostheses made of particulate filler composite alone or reinforced with E-glass fibers impregnated with various monomers.
The load-bearing capacity and failure types of indirect inlay-retained fixed dental prostheses (FDP), made of particulate filler composite (PFC) (Estenia) alone or reinforced with E-glass fibers impregnated with various monomers were evaluated. Indirect inlay-retained FDPs were made between first premolars and first molars (N=30, 10/per group). The inlay parts of the specimens were silica coate...
متن کاملFive-year survival of 3-unit fiber-reinforced composite fixed partial dentures in the anterior area.
OBJECTIVES The purpose of this clinical study was to evaluate the long-term outcome of 3-unit anterior fixed partial dentures (FPDs) made of fiber-reinforced resin composite (FRC), and to identify design factors influencing the survival rate. METHODS 52 patients (26 females, 26 males) received 60 indirectly made FRC FPDs, using pre-impregnated unidirectional glass fibers, requiring manual wet...
